Our Working Cocker Spaniel, Daisy, had the misfortune to secure a rather nasty cut on her front leg whilst out on a walk on Sunday afternoon. The injury was such that we felt it required immediate medical attention and called our local vet and were (as we knew we would be) diverted to Medivet, Woodstock. On Arrival Daisy was assessed and we were advised that she would require surgery which was fully expected. What was not expected was the price quoted of £1250 which frankly is robbery and I can only assume priced to take advantage of ill and sick dogs with no other options late on a Sunday afternoon. Daisy is quite accident prone and the most prior surgery has cost has been in the region of £450. Based on this sickening and immoral price we asked for the vet to bandage the wound, the cost of which I will come onto shortly, and made the decision to take her to our usual vet the following day which we duly did. Surgery was subsequently performed at a total cost of £298.82 a clear £951.18 less that you wanted to charge me. Now back to the bandage (just the bandage mind you, the vet fees were on top of this) for which you charged £35.27, again I am disgusted at your blatant profiteering and would appreciate an explanation of how you come to these exorbitant fees both for the bandage and more importantly the surgery.

Vet Response

Dear Jonathan, Thank you very much for your review. We really appreciate your feedback. We hope Daisy has fully recovered from her nasty cut. It’s never easy to see a beloved family pet in pain. Unfortunately, there is no NHS for pets, and the cost of veterinary care is on the rise due to advances in technology and treatment. At Woodstock, we’re available to help our clients and their pets 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (including Sundays, Easter and Christmas). On the Sunday you called in, we were able to offer immediate, effective care to help Daisy – when most other vets and most of our clients were spending time with their families and relaxing. That’s a real commitment to you, but it’s also an expensive one for us to provide. We’re always happy to explain our prices or to look for alternative ways to help pets who need us. Perhaps it would be easier for us to explain them over the phone or at a meeting with you. Would you mind giving us a call when you can? Kindest regards, Medivet Woodstock

Very friendly staff, one of our dogs is a bit crazy but the staff always handle him without fuss. We have used this practice for many years, and with several dogs and cats, the treatment and service is always exemplary. I would thoroughly recommend the Woodstock Medivet practice.

We had an emergency on Sunday 25th of June with my dog. She had badly hurt one of her back legs. We took her to Medivet in Woodstock. The vet Ellie Buffet was fantastic so kind and even helped me carry my dog from the car and back after seeing her. She explained everything really well and really looked after my dog. I felt so much better after seeing her. The ladies on reception were lovely, not minding that my dog did a wee on the floor. I highly recommend this practice.

We rang up tonight after Henry, our 13 year labarador, decided to move his foot too, quickly when my husband was cutting his claws. Needless to say there was blood everywhere coming out of his paw. We were explained the cost of call out and how it might be more if there was an issue, but they hoped it would just be a case of nitrate (?) on the claw and all would be fine. Anyhows Henry can spot a vet a mile off and was positively shaking as usual when we ran in. The two ladies on reception were there immediately to calm him down and reassure him. They sorted him out in reception and fussed him with treats when they had finished. We left with no payment and a dab of nitrate "just in case". I can't thank them enough for an old dog that is our world. Currently snuggled on his blanket, knackered by his ordeal.

I call the emergency clinic out of hours as my 11 years old Cocker Spaniel had been vomiting blood overnight and the person I got on the phone was ever so nice and friendly, understood my stress but mentioned the extra cost of coming out of hours and that I could wait for the normal opening hours at my usual vet, but if I preferred I could also bring Moja straight away. 30' later the night vet on duty that received us gave an examination to Moja and gave me some choices also explaining clearly the cost involved and not trying to take advantage but genuinely concerned by the well being of my dog with a kind friendly and caring attitude. The partner vet kindly called me a couple of hours later after thoroughly examining Moja and caring my normal vet practice for history, Dimitar Mitev gave me a clear update over the phone and explained the options for the treatment and additional tests that would be necessary, without being pushy or over dramatic about the diagnostic of the disease, I felt that Moja was in good hand and well cared for and looked after. I got regular updates about the well being and status of the disease for Moja, was allowed to come to visit her every day, were a consultation room was open for me to have sometime alone with Moja and all the staff of the practices were ever so kind, friendly and genuinely caring for the animals, getting excited when progress were made and especially when Moja eventually started eating again! The Vet and receptionist all made sure the cost were covered by my insurance, helped me understanding the policy and excesses, and filled up all the necessary paperwork for me so I did not had to worry about these in this stressful time. I have now decided to switch my usual veterinary practice to MediVet Woodstock even if it is much further away from my house, as I never found this level of caring, friendliness and professionalism in any of the other 3 practices I have visited in Oxford! A big thank you to Dimitar and all the team at mediVet Woodstock for looking so well after Moja and make her healthy again!! :)

Dimitar and his team are not only professional and knowledgeable but they genuinely care about your pet. Dimitar has always gone above and beyond the call of duty for my fur babies including popping in to take my dogs stitches out as he knew he got car sick. I would not hesitate to recommend this practice.

Our dog has had an injured shoulder for a few weeks now. We've been to two other vets who said they didn't know what was going on, that it was probably arthritis, and just prescribed anti inflammatories. This vet investigated a lot more thoroughly, checking our dog's range of movements in her shoulder and working out exactly what was inflamed, and diagnosed her with tendonitis. This is a huge relief because the other vets would probably have just ordered an X ray, which wouldn't have shown the tendonitis. The vet also diagnosed my dog with mites and he explained well what had caused them. We're glad to finally know what's wrong with our dog!
