After a tragic incident I had to have two dogs euthanised. No consultation was needed. There was no doubt that both dogs had to be euthanised. The staff were great. The price of £250 was shockingly expensive. If it had been an out of hours emergency i could understand the charge, but the clinic was open, and it was a short job to euthanise two dogs. The charge for a few minutes work is definitely not in proportion.
Vet ResponseDear Karen, I was sorry to hear of the incident last week and concerns regarding costs. I have replied directly to you to resolve these, but if you do have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Jane Cutler, Practice Director.

My cat tic tac had an ongoing health problem she was 12 years old on Saturday 2nd September she collapsed at home we rushed her out to estover vetinary hospital but sadly she passed away in my arms in the car when we arrived my husband went in first to inform the staff they did offer to come out and get tic tac but I wanted to carry her in myself we could not fault the staff for their compassion professionalism and kindness at what was a very distressing time they made it that little bit easier to leave tic tac as we were made to feel she would be looked after.

In 2016 I made 3 visits with my dog, who had a growth on his elbow. On each visit I was charged fees to be advised (wrongly) there was nothing much they could do and best to leave it. On the last visit the growth was bigger than a tennis ball, and obviously causing mobility problems and distress. He was examined, probably misdiagnosed over an anal matter, offered dental treatment for approx £640, and quoted £1,300 - £1,400 for removal of the growth, but again advising they did not want to do it. I then went to a long established vet in Plymouth who said the lump had to be removed as soon as possible. He operated successfully, and the dog has a good leg again. For this exemplary job he charged me £400 - compared with your £1,300-1,400 quote. More importantly, he solved the problem. My visits to your practice seem to have been a waste of time and money.
Vet ResponseThank you for your review C Thomas. We do encourage feedback and the opportunity to be able to look into any concerns that Clients may have regarding any part of our veterinary care. I am sorry to hear of your concerns relating to your visits to our practice in 2016 and would be happy to investigate this for you. The practice is great and we will continue to use them for our pets. However the reception team often seem completely overwhelmed and mistakes are occurring more and more regularly. Initially this was put down to an updated computer system, however that was many weeks ago now but it still doesn't appear to be working for them. Fingers crossed it clicks into place soon because the chaotic reception is beginning to let them down slightly.
Vet ResponseWe appreciate this feedback and are working hard together with the IT system providers to sort out a lot of teething problems with the new computer system. It's not all fixed yet, but the list is getting shorter. We would like to thank our clients for their patience during this difficult time, and apologise for any errors that have originated from computer chaos. We all look forward to the restoration of normal service (or better!)

My wirehaired dachshund Darcey had an operation at the hospital and I have nothing but praise for everyone who looked after Darecy and who gave me terrific support. Prue the vet who performed the operation was brilliant very kind and caring and spent a lot of her time in explaining everything in detail to me . Also not to forget the receptionists who being the first line of contact do a wonderful job in making everyone feel special . I would highly recommend this practice.

I found a deceased cat on the side of the road so decided to take the poor thing to the nearest vet to be scanned for a chip and respectfully taken care of. Estover point blank refused to take the cat, even though the poor thing was dead and i had no way of keeping him/her till a better vets was open. The woman ( a nurse i think) argued with me on the doorstep of the practice, refusing to help so in the end i had to get back in my car and google local 24hr vets - Woodlands were open and they were lovely, took the cat without any question. I wouldnt recommend this practice to anyone, not even those doing a good deed as they clearly dont care for the animals, only the money!
Vet ResponseI am sorry to hear of the concerns raised in your review. Here at The Veterinary Hospital in Estover, staff are available throughout the night to deal with all situations for our own clients and those of our neighbouring practices. The concerns you raise are not representative of the level of service that we aim to provide and we would welcome the opportunity to investigate these points further. If you would like to discuss this incident in more detail, then please contact our Business Manager on 01752 702646 when convenient. Thank you.

My cat's been registered here for a few years now, every time we've visited, I couldn't fault them. The staff are lovely, such a friendly bunch. And at tough times like these, they really put you at ease. Over the past couple of months, my cat, Felix has been having some problems. Constant sickness, barely going toilet and just a general lack of personality which before he had so much of! They looked into every aspect of his illness, we tried prescription food to see if this would be lighter on his tummy and stop the vomiting. We also had numerous teeth out that were actually quite bad! None of this seemed to resolve the issue and he continued his vomiting, losing a shed load of weight. This is when we were advised for an ultrasound to scan his belly, search for the cause of the problem. Through this, his vet found a mass in his abdomen. Through all the advice that was given to me, all options considered, I decided the kindest thing for him would be to put him at ease with euthanasia. I was so worried about going through with this, scared of the experience. But it was actually really peaceful, quick and he was treated with the utmost respect. I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for him, all the time and effort that was put into his care. It really is appreciated! I shall never forget his passing, but it was as easy as it could of been. And if anywhere, I would one hundred percent recommend this place!

Lola, my 10 month old puppy, was spayed on Tuesday and I couldn't be more happy with way we were dealt with. I called initially to make the appointment and was given one for the following week at a time to suit me. I was sent a letter detailing everything I would need to know before the operation. I called on the day to say I would be late as I was stuck in traffic and the man I spoke to on the phone assured me this was ok and not to worry. I waited about 20 minutes to see someone, but this wasn't an issue as I was late and there were lots of people/animals in the waiting room. I was talked through the forms efficiently and everything was explained fully about the operation. I was given time to say bye to Lola before they took her away and was dealt with in a very sensitive manner. At 2pm I was called to let me know Lola was ok and to arrange a pick up time, 3 hours later. When I arrived the staff talked me through the after car before going to get Lola, who came out as if nothing had happened. I have just called to make a follow up appointment and spoke to another friendly, efficient receptionist. I couldn't be happier with the service and care we have received. A huge thank you to all the staff, from myself and Lola!
