Took my cat here as I was going on holiday and couldn't get an appointment with my usual vets. He had been 2 weeks ago however was still feeling sick after the medication so we rushed him into another appointment with Vets4pets.
They couldn't diagnose the problem so injected him with antibiotics, provided me with a urine test and performed bloods test... they also gave us medication for the next 10 days.
Unfortunately due to my holiday I couldn't take him in the next time but got a trusted friend to do so. They then rang me up to ask if they could perform another bloods test, I was confused because the tests cost £108 and they had done one a few days ago however they were insistant on doing a repeat. I enquired further and they couldn't justify the 2nd bloods test just said they were looking for cat aids/Leukaemia like they had done previously.
They then injected him, we provided them with a urine test and we haven't heard any results regarding the urine test... He's still not well currently and we've decided to take him to his usual vets.
Overall I was charged £390 for two consultations and he is no closer to recovery and we don't have a diagnosis. I've heard nothing regarding the urine sample, seems like they're quite happy to just run constant tests on your pet at your expense. They've injected my cat 3 times in 2 days with Antibiotics, performed a bloods and urine test and given him 10 days of meds... the only thing they can suggest is repeating the same and even suggested that we hadn't been giving him his medication on time each and everyday so it could be down to our negligence... We're really concerned for him, have taken numerous days off with work to care for him and ensured hes eating his meals and taking his meds.
I won't he coming back to Vets4Pets however since his problems are still unresolved, will be taking him to his usual vets. Fingers crossed.
We are sorry to hear that Harambe is still not well and also that you feel let down by the service you have received from our practice. I can ensure you that like you we would like to see him get better as soon as possible. The reason that you have not received any results from the urine test is that it was not run as when he was brought back the next day by your friend they had not managed to get a urine sample so the cost of that test was credited back to you as we could not run it.
The additional blood test you mention was a different blood test to the first one. The sample we ran and got the results shortly afterwards was to check the functioning of his organs and how his blood cells were responding with his illness. They suggested an infection and because he had not really responded to the treatment he was given at the other vets we felt that running an additional test to see if he had either Feline Leukaemia or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus would be a good idea while we started treatment of the signs he was showing. These two disease are more common in un-neutered males and could result in the clinical signs he was showing and why he hadn’t responded to the first lot of treatment as they affect his immune system and its ability to deal with infection.
The amount you spent for the tests and treatment provided by us was less than you mention with the total for the two visits being just over £262. This included the two consultations, the blood test we ran and some medication. We always want to provide the best care and service possible and also ensure that clients fully understand what tests we are doing and why and also what the next plan is if their pets are not getting better and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further in person or by telephone.
