Firstly, how unbelievable to take your new dog to see the vet, for him to begin telling us 'how wrong we are for adopting a dog from abroad'. His daughter adopted one from Africa? This statement was backtracked, but wow - I have never come across a more self-assured man with below zero respect for someones pet. The seating arrangement is appalling, the customer service when you walk in the door IS NOT friendly. I am disgusted by the service offered here and how unwelcome he made my dog feel, who has been homeless for 2 years may I add, and brought in to our home from abroad. The man is a hypocrite, unsympathetic and opens his mouth before he speaks. Certainly not the traits I look for when asking someone to treat my pet. I do not normally leave reviews but time has passed and I am still angry at the disgusting way we were made to feel for saving a poor animals life. Please do not take your pet here, they simply deserve better.

Vet Response

Dear Charlotte I have read your review on Vet Help Direct and I am very sorry that you feel as you do. I would very much like to know why you didn’t like the seating as it was chosen to be both comfortable and cleanable and not tip small children off like the folding plastic ones. Our reception staff usually fall over backwards to be friendly so I wonder if perhaps you caught them at a bad moment. I can see that my comments about bringing in dogs in from abroad upset you, for which I am sorry. Every veterinary practice currently sees many dogs brought in from abroad and neither I nor anyone else in the practice treats them any differently. On an individual basis it is great news that he now has a happy home and I hope that the skin problem for which you brought him is now resolving. Looking at the wider picture many vets are concerned that bringing in large numbers of dogs in from eastern and southern Europe with very limited health screening is bringing in some awful new diseases. They have already brought Babesiasis and Leishmaniosis and others may follow. into this country is having. It is difficult to balance natural sympathy for the individual dogs with concern about spreading diseases. When those dogs came from other EU countries such as Romania and Greece, perhaps we should be trying to help them in the country in which they are. Simon Thomas

As a hobby breeder of Persian and Chinchilla cats we needed a competent, knowledgeable and friendly vet practice within our area who we could count on to give quality care for our cats and new born kittens. So we searched the area and tried various vet practices but found them to be missing something, then after more searching we came across Gatehouse Veterinary Practice based at Haworth, from the time we first went through the door on the first day I can say without fear of contradiction I was impressed with the service, care for the kittens and their mums, but it didn’t end their oh no, attention was given to my concerns and they have never failed to put me at ease when I have needed some support with one of our pets. Gatehouse, have some of the best practice nurses (who by the way keep running off with kittens when they go for checkups). The vets are second to none and very knowledgeable caring people, who treat all our kittens as if they were their own. Last but not least, reception keeps things running smooth so the vets and nurses can concentrate on the job in hand. Would I recommend Gatehouse to anyone? In a heartbeat, they are without doubt the best vet practice in the area.

As hobby breeders of Persian and Chinchilla cats we need a competent veterinary practice to give advice and professional care for our cats and kittens. After trying one local allegedly competent practice it soon became apparent that money was the main driving force behind the practice not care for its patients, I do understand a business needs to make a profit, but the line was clearly cash then care, not care then cash. Gatehouse however is a totally different kettle of fish as they say, from the receptionist to the Directors of the practice they have always put the care of our cats and kittens first, on top of this before any treatment is administered we get the reason and the procedure explained in detail. None of this oh you wouldn’t understand malarkey. Gatehouse Veterinary Practice is without doubt one of the best practices if not the best in our area. And I have no qualms in recommending them to anyone who wants the best for their pet. It’s a shame the staff can’t be cloned and distributed all over the country, and then everyone would be confident in the care they and their pet received. Brian Morris

Following a car accident involving my dog last night I rang the surgery who advised me to go straight down, as soon as we arrived we were straight in to see the vet who was fab. The vet nurse who carried out the dressings was patient, kind and friendly putting both my dog and myself at ease. We returned today for a check up with a different vet who was equally as kind, compassionate and helpful. Its an excellent surgery, all the staff are friendly professional and caring. We have visited the surgery numerous times with various animals over the years and have always been happy with the service we have received. I would highly recommend Gatehouse to anyone.

This is the first time i have had to have treatment done for my 8 month old cat. I went in not knowing what would happen. Then vet (simon, i think) was FAB. He explained what he had found and what he was going to do.And if she wasnt back to normal the next day i needed to bring her back in. He was very good with my cat and so was the assistant. My cat stayed calm throughout. The reception lady offerd to provisionally book me in for the next day just in case. Which i thought was very good. The cost wasnt too high. My cat is back to her playful normal self now and we are very happy with the service and treatment given. It has made our christmas that she is okay again thanks to them. We attended the Haworth one. I would 100% return to them. Thank you!

After moving house, I found this little gem of a practice. When we appeared with a sick guinea pig and son in tears, the vet spent as much time with my son as she did with the pig, who left fully mended. The cat and dog are always well treated, with care, respect and professionalism, the counter staff friendly and helpful. I would recommend them to anyone, compared to a practice I previously used, they are outstanding.

I have been going to Haworth since it opened with numerous pets. I am always made welcome. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful and always manage to fit me in if I have a problem. The vets are all kind and friendly. Simon and Hannah are very caring and thorough and go out of their way to help. Even though Yogi has had a lot of problems he loves going. Normally he takes ages for me to get him to go out but if I say come on we are going to the vets he is up straight away. Had quite a few dealings with Allerton aswell and find everybody here to be friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend Gatehouse Vets

I can highly recommend the staff at the Haworth Practice and vet Hannah is amazing. She has helped me and my pets so much. My cat Koda has HCM and receives regular medication, my dog had stomach issues for months and this was diagnosed as food allergies - he has never been happier or healthier since this was discovered and I can feed him to keep him healthy. I also foster for a local cat charity and the staff are ever so helpful with all the foster cats I bring in. Receptionists very friendly and helpful too. Excellent service from all staff there. Thank you.
