The reception staff were incredibly friendly, not just on our first visit to register but when we took our greyhound in too. The practice is clean and nicely laid out. The veterinary surgeon we saw was extremely thorough, listened and knew greyhounds well. We've signed up for their plan which we think is a brilliant way to to do things. We left with a dog who wasn't stressed at all.

I had to have one of the vets come out to PTS my dog that had become aggressive to my others. Very professional and cannot fault but when it came to collect her ashes the branch said that as insurance companies do not pay for euthanasia We has to pay £300+ to collect her ashes. My insurance company covered the costs and paid them the previous Friday but it appears that all payments go to the central Medivet control and then gets passed onto the branch. It was a distressing time and to be made to pay because the branch had not been allocated the money from the central company stinks.. I will certainly be thinking about changing practices due to this. Also the date for my Taiga's cremation was stated as 13 November and only had notification on 3rd December. Have to say that Medivet are expensive and although their vets appear to good the admin is total crap.

We want to pass on our sympathies for your recent loss – we know what an upsetting time this must be for you and appreciate your kind comments about the practice team. We are sorry if our central finance system has added to your distress and we will certainly look into the issues you have raised to ensure the process is as efficient as it should be. Clearly we didn’t meet our own high standards on this occasion and want to apologise for that.

My beloved cat came into this vets in February with a suspected urine infection. No big deal just prescribe me some Science Plan wet food or whatever.. But no. this was not the case.. The vet Ivo Dos Santos said that he would need to be given a catheter to determine if my cat Murdock actually had an infection. He presented me with a form and a large bill of £1,700 and advised he must be sedated for the procedure. Ivo asked me if he was registered at Medivet. I advised no, he goes to see Dr Jobson of Rochford Veterinary Practise. He was at Medivet due to it being the weekend and that Murdock showed signs of discomfort at home. Then Ivo ask me when did Murdock last eat. I advised - moments ago he had his dinner like normal. - I knew this was because he would have to wait until tomorrow now to be sedated so that his stomach was empty. I foolishly did what was advised by Ivo. Gave him one last cuddle and handed him over. Little did I know that this would be the last time I would ever hold him alive. I get a phone call 45 minutes later.. to my horror, the procedure had taken place and I was advised it had all gone to plan. I then asked to see Murdock of which I was denied. I was advised that this would get him excited and cause him pain. - I was advised this over the next few days until.. I receive a phone call from a different vet whilst I was at work to ask me 'do we have your permeation to resuscitate Murdock' at this point I asked the vet what on earth is going on?! he advised me that the sedation days prior had not gone to plan and as I expected.. he choked during the sedative. Particles were in his lungs and he had been in the ICU for the past several days! I went to see him immediately. When I saw him he was on oxygen fighting for his life. He was only 7 years old and besides the UTI he was in perfect health! It was only when I asked the vet ‘Is he on anything to help fight this?’- the vet then said ‘we will try a course of antibiotics through his IV’ Shocked that they had tried to cover this up. It was like they were waiting for him to die! The urine test results returned that afternoon, the vet advised me that it was one of the more simple UTI’s to treat. Simply feed him wet food.. I was mortified. All this to be advised what I already had a feel could be the case. That night I received a final phone call from a different vet to tell me that he collapsed and that the resuscitation was unsuccessful. Murdock had died at 1:45am because of the negligence of Medivet. I went to get his body - I was told they even lost his cat carrier and that I had to carry him home in my arms. I was also told that the owner of the practice and the vet will call me in the morning. £5,000 they tried to charge me for the unnecessary killing of my cat. My partner called them to negotiate the unjust bill. They agreed on the original £1,700 we had already sent to the pet insurance to deal with when Murdock was first admitted. They sent me payment reminders and it turned out they hadn’t even sent the pet insurance documents to their head office to sign yet! My vet Jobson had called on the Monday and asked if any of his patients have been admitted over the weekend. Reception said NO. – I found this out after when trying to seek advice after Murdock died. I complained to the head office and spoke to a lady that was so vile about what had happened to me. “Yeah well it happens, can’t do anything about it so..” Disgusting! Repulsive excuse of a vet. No compassion for animals what so ever. They are a danger to them. Don’t ever take your animals here!

Dear Sally, This case was looked into by the VDS back in February and agreed that the correct advice and course of treatment were given. A good will gesture was made at the time and we assumed the matter was then concluded. We are therefore surprised to see this review many months later and would be happy to discuss the case again with you again if you wish.

Amazing continued care for our beloved dog Woody. My family were kept informed and supported throughout worrying times and Woody was cared for with a service that put all at ease. Recommended highly. Thanks to all involved at Hockley and Southend.

On Saturday morning my 14 year old dog was taken suddenly and critically ill and I rushed him to Southend Medivet. Over the weekend he was given constant 24 hour care and I was kept up to date with his progress. I cannot praise enough the dedication and expert care my Ryan was given by Oliver and his team. Sadly I had to make a sad, final decision and was with him when he passed away. Thank you all so much for looking after my boy so well. Five stars truly earned. Valerie Durham

saw my dog late on a sunday, and couldent be more helpful, and kind towards him. I always got Spinnakers, and was worried about trying another vet, but I was blown away with the level of care my dog recieved, and not a major shock when the bill came.
