I first encountered Penmellyn Vets in 1972 when I first moved to Cornwall and during my first week here my 11 year old Boxer dog became ill and died in the middle of the night. Next morning I contacted them for help - on a recommendation from my new neighbour - and they were so helpful, suggesting a possible snake bite being the cause and offering to remove my much loved dog for me. I have been using them with all my subsequent pets ever since. They have always been so helpful and caring, and none of my various dogs have ever been treated with anything but kindness and respect. For the first time in my life I own a cat at present and again they have always been so supportive and helpful. I have no doubts about recommending their services to any caring pet owner.

Such a wonderful vet practice, starting from the outside, plenty of parking and an exercise area, I even noticed a lovely little garden area this time with a bench, which is a lovely touch if you need some private time. The reception is area is large but welcoming, the staff are always friendly and make a fuss of your animal and offer treats too I have always seen lovely vets here and the latest visit on the 8th September 2017 was no different. This time we saw Richard who was amazing ! I have a Newfoundland called Pebbles, who is such a good girl but has never liked having the Kennel cough vaccine up the nose so usually tries to hide at this point Lol But with Richard she just stood there and let him, so impressed ! :) I wouldn't hesitate recommending this practice 5 stars from me and Pebbles :)

Vet Response

Thank you Julie for taking the time to leave us this wonderful review. We are pleased that Pebbles had no problem having her kennel cough vaccination this time. Thank you for mentioning the outside facjlities as well. We look forward to seeing you and Pebbles again soon.

I started using Penmellyn Vets in 2007 when I bought my horse. All services for him have been thorough and thoughtful. He has moved yards but I was delighted to find that the new yard uses Penmellyn Vets so there has been no break in his care. Since moving nearer to St. Columb I also use Penmellyn Vets for my two elderly cats and I cannot fault the care and service.

Vet Response

Thank you for your lovely review, we are pleased you were able to continue using our equine vets when you moved yards with your horse, and even more delighted to hear your two cats have become patients at st columb. We look forward to seeing you and them in the future.

We have been clients of the Penmellyn group since we first moved to Cornwall, first at the main hospital in St Coloumb, and now at Pool. They have always been very professional with our Dog and I never feel as if they are trying to sell me products or treatment that is not warranted for the current treatment of her. She has behavioural issues yet always seems happy to visit and once at the surgery we always receive a friendly and professional service from all members of the team. Pool Surgery has the added benefits of all the medical and treatment advances by being a part of the St Coloumb Hospital yet has the friendly disposition of a small surgery. I would definitely recommend this surgery.

Vet Response

Thank you so much Tina, for leaving such a lovely review of St Columb and our branch surgery at Pool, we are so pleased that you are happy with the services we provide, and that means a lot to us. Fiona 08.09.2017

I cannot speak highly of the care & dedication the staff showed towards our dog. From starting our journey down to Cornwall knowing our Border Collie would be needing several visit to the vets during our two week stay in Mawgan Porth for dressing changes due to a badly cut paw. My vets transferred Barney's notes through that morning & when I rang at 9.30am on route to Cornwall to book an appointment a reassuring receptionist said they had already received Barney's notes so an appointment was made. We were made to feel very welcome as if we were regular clients & not just holiday makers & by the end of the holiday & many visits some scheduled some not we felt very much at home. The time & care the vets & nurses took to treat & dress Barney's paw were superb. Many thanks to the receptionists for their warm welcome & vets ( Madeleine, Kate & Dawn) for the care & compassion that was shown towards myself & Barney during our visits. Which had been a very trying & worrying few weeks for us in the run up & during our holiday. I don't think Barney has totally forgiven us for not going to the beach this holiday but I'm sure he will make up for it next year. Barney is continuing to make steady progress now we are back home. Thankyou all so much for looking after my boy.

Vet Response

Thank you for your very kind review, we are pleased you felt that you were treated as one of our clients rather than a holiday maker. We hope Barney has now made a full recovery and it didn't spoil your visit to Cornwall too much.

Very helpful and professional vets which I have been a member of for over 15 years.

The are very good and friendly with my dog. Unfortunately he has had to visit the vets a lot lately and stay with them throughout the day etc. I have no worries him being left there as I know he is looked after and cared for how I care for him. I ring up for advise and they are always helpful and happy to give advise over the phone or they book me in to speak with a vet. When an appointment is needed I have never had to wait more than a day or two. Any issues I have had they have addressed and dealt with straight away. I do find them a tad over priced compared to other vets near by however my dog is excited walking into the vets and I am happy here so more than happy to pay the extra.

Vet Response

Thank you for your kind review, we are pleased to hear Merryn enjoys coming to stay with us. We look forward to seeing you both again soon although we hope that it will be just a routine visit. I have passed your comments re pricing on to the relevant staff.
