A few years ago, I took my dog to Polden Hills for a second opinion. Before I'd even finished explaining the problem, John had done a dry eye test – something her previous Veterinary Hospital in Bridgwater had failed to do, despite the fact that she was displaying what I now know to be classic symptoms. Had I not taken her for that second opinion, she would now be blind – and if I'd taken her earlier, she could have been spared much pain and several operations & I'd be a few thousand pounds better off. Pets can usually always be seen by the same vet, who becomes familiar with them and their problems and, therefore, can spot any changes in them which may not be apparent if seen by a succession of different vets. I believe John & Margaret are more concerned about animals' welfare than making money and are always available to talk on the 'phone about any worries. By far the most important thing, though, is that they are very competent & know what they are doing – which, as I've discovered, is not something that can be taken for granted.

I have recommended Polden Hills to everyone I know. This is because I joined Margaret, John and their awesome staff soon after they took over the practice and know how hard they fought to overcome obstacles left for them by others. I am totally neurotic about my animals but have never met a team so totally dedicated to the professional care they give and the genuine loving compassion they show to pets and owners alike. I worry for their health as they are available 24/7 which means their entire lives are committed to the animals in their care. Sadly I’ve had to have two cats put to sleep but John was at my home within 10 minutes of my call, accompanied by a nurse and our babies went to sleep peacefully in my arms. All the staff are amazing and the care my pets have received has been better than humans get, I watched John spey my toy poodle and as an ex nurse, I can tell you, her care and his expertise where simply astonishing. Margaret even showed me photos she had taken of our poorly cat during the night, to show she was not distressed. Now they have video cameras in the cages so you know your animal will be watched over all the time. Words are simply inadequate to express how highly I rate this whole team, there are many stories I could tell you but I think I’ve made my point. Thank you to every one of you and as someone else has said, the standard of care offered here should be mandatory in all veterinary practices.

I had been with a practice for many years until one day I took my dogs for their claws to be cut , and felt they were more interested in making money than my dogs ! I had been recommended Polden hills before so made the choice to move to them ! Well I wish I had done it many years ago ! Wow all the staff are so caring , they listen to what we want and advise after ! They showed us around the practice ! Amazing facilities ! I also took my three doe rabbits there this week , which had been sexed by a different practice ! To find out my three girls were now 2 girls and one boy

John and Margaret provide a service which is very difficult to find. They give the very best to both their patients and owners. Our own daughter is a vet and is always impressed by the care our cocker spaniel receives. We feel very fortunate to have found such a caring and genuinely friendly practice, all the staff go above and beyond what we have ever experienced. When Blueberry, our beloved pet suffered an acute illness John and Margaret responded with prompt and caring treatment. When she was admitted for futher therapy I was confident that her surroundings were the best available, I went into the kennel with her and it was absolutely pristine and very comfortable. The gardens surrounding the practice are really beautiful and it is an environment that you never feel hurried in. Our thanks go to John and Margaret and ALL the staff for creating such a wonderful place.

John, Margaret and all the staff are always enthusiastic and caring every visit. Recently my pet dog suffered a seizure late at night. Margaret answered the phone immediately and John came to our home straight away staying until my dog was fully recovered. The following morning we had to visit the practice for medication both John and Margaret came to speak with me and took time to make a fuss of my then over zealous dog.

Having just bought a puppy after having had cats for 40 years we were recommended to go to Polden by a friend who breeds and shows at Crufts. On our first visit my wife and I were greeted by one of the owners who lives on site with her partner who shares the practice - both being surgeons. She took the time to give us a guided tour and explained their philosophy of giving total respect and care to both pets and their owners when they visit the surgery for consultation or operations. We were so impressed with the whole setup and the attitude of both the owners and their staff in treating us and our pup more like guests than customers that we have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who cares about their pet and the way it will be treated when requiring medical attention. If you visit the practice, check out the garden waiting area and the rest area/room for owners waiting for their pets whilst they undergo surgery.

Lovely kind small practice, nothing too much trouble and they seem to love your pets as much as you do, very compassionate, can't recommend highly enough

What a really wonderful experience. We were welcome, then, shown around what appeared to be a very well equipped practice. Having experienced what I regard as the 'conveyor belt,' approach to animal care. It was VERY refreshing to find a practice that cared not only for the pet, but the guardians too. A very generous goodie bag was much appreciated as we left. Thank you.

I have always had numerous animals, lots of them rescues, so a good vet is essential to me, but this practice goes above and beyond and are simply the best I have ever come across. Compassionate and caring to animals and owners, everyone working there is just so very nice and I have complete confidence that they will look after my very precious pets, whilst also indirectly caring for me, ( by knowing when I am distressed or concerned about one of my pets.) I would like to see the way this practice works replicated in every veterinary practice throughout the UK because it is the right way to look after animals and their owners. I cannot express just how grateful I am to have found this wonderful team. Thank you to them all. Fortunately I so far have only had to take my pets there for routine treatments and surgeries but I know that in the unfortunate event of an emergency that I would be able to rely on the whole practice.
