Hi, I’m wondering if I can give my puppy deworming medication if I am unsure she has a parasite. She was drinking very dirty water that I saw bugs in and I’m afraid she may have drank something that might make her sick

Hello!  It is absolutely common practice to deworm puppies routinely, without knowing what specific worms they are carrying, on the assumption that nearly all puppies are likely to pick up one or two worms from their environment.  Your vet will be able to tell what sort of worms your puppy is most at risk of from their age, lifestyle, geographical location and environment and will advise an appropriate product.

Appropriate worming medication, prescribed by your vet, carries a low risk and can help to keep your puppy and household safe.

If you type 'worms' into our blog, there is further reading for you there.  Best of luck and please let us know how you get on!
