My 6 month old puppy swallowed a hard 1.5in x 1.5in piece of dried meat treat whole. Should I worry that it will become an obstruction? Or do you think the odds are that she will digest it, since it’s food? 8C1DC546-65E7-4653-8632-EF09BF921A373952AA35-2D23-456E-A033-5AB8ABA3F68C

Hello!  Because I am not your vet and do not have legal responsibility for making medical decisions for your pup, I cannot answer this question. Furthermore, I don't know much about the particular treats or the  breed or size of your dog, so even if I could it would be unwise to give an opinion. However, I can tell you what to do next.  You need to call your vet, or the people making decisions for your pet in the case of an emergency (because most vets now have their out of hours covered elsewhere, by people who haven't been working all day) and tell them what has happened.  They will then triage the case properly and decide where to go from here. I'd be interested to hear what they say.

If a bit of food makes it to the stomach and gets digested there, you have no need to worry.  Problems usually happen if a) it doesn't make it to the stomach or part of it gets caught somewhere b) makes it to the stomach but causes a problem eg cuts through the stomach wall or causes a blockage, before the stomach juices break it down,or ç) doesn't get broken down and moves into the intestines and causes a problem there.  Your vet will work out what's most likely to happen.
