i wanted to ask a large group if anyone experienced,  or knows of this.. mix minpin and unknown..   doberman maybe,  age unknown. but ive had him since 2010 got him  @ like 3 or 4 ish. .. he would cough  and cough non stop for about 3 years. no vet could diagnose it probably 6 vet clinics... i had videos of his coughing spells..  pretty much  went away at the same time he started losing control of his back legs. not arthritis,  possibly als but he still feels ya touch his toes.     i believe he has a major back prob from forever jumping.  x rays show nothing of course.   hes super healthy except his back end

Hello!  I can't think of any obvious reasons why the cessation of coughing and the back end problem might be linked.  Typically, neurological back end problems are caused by disc lesions ('slipped discs') or arthritis in dobermans, but your vet would to verify that.  Hip problems are also a possibility. Perhaps there could be an indirect link between the dogs' mobility and their exposure to certain particulate matter that made them cough, or perhaps medication has been given for the mobility change that has helped with the coughing. I can't tell where you're up to with treatment at this time, but if your vet hasn't seen the hindlimb issue we would recommend it because of the high incidence of disc problems in the breed. If you do discover that the link is any more than a coincidence, I would be interested to hear about it. Best of luck.
