Hello, After a long ineffective treatment for allergies for itchy skin the vet believes my airedale has scabies. No confirmation from a skin scrape but many symptoms match. The infection is pretty well along because we originally treated for allergies. The dog has been put on Nexguard as of 3 days ago. I understand this is an extended treatment which can take up to 80 days. My concern is the dog is scratching relentlessly and may do permanent harm to her skin. Is there anything at all I can do to help allievate her itching (bath meds lotions???). Thanks so much!

Hello!  I don't know about the length of onset for the drug you mention, but if that is right then this sounds like a welfare issue for this particular patient, so would advise that you see your vet as soon as possible so that they can prescribe something to alleviate your pets' immediate discomfort.   Welfare always needs to come first.  If you give them a call right now and explain the level of discomfort, they may be able to prioritise the case.
