Cats in Greece

Hi! Am I at risk of rabies or bringing something bad home?   I’m currently in Greece and noticed a lot of stray cats everywhere.   Now, I’m a catlover and did the not so smart thing and petted them… Now I’m very anxious… I didn’t think about them possibly having something, very stupid I knooow, young and dumb.   I did not get bit or scratched, however one nibbled on me slightly. There was no scratch, scar, blood or wound whatsoever, but still. I’m mostly worried about rabies, but also other things I might bring home to my pets especially. I will stay here for more than a week longer. Do you think it is fine, should I panic? Could I have rabies?

Hello!   It's rare for cats to carry Rabies.  However, as the saying goes, all cat bites that break the skin are infected (with bacteria) until proven otherwise because most cats carry some quite unpleasant bacteria in their mouths.   I am not a doctor and cannot give you medical advice, but if you have had a cat bite that has broken the skin, then whatever country you are in you should seek the advice of a doctor.

I have just read that again.  It sounds as though the skin hasn't been broken.  I am still unable to give you medical advice however - are you from the UK?  If you need medical advice then someone at home may be able to call 111 on your behalf.
