My dog had an IMHA episode and did not eat for almost five days. She is on .75mg of prednisone and daily antibiotics. She has been eating small amounts of wet dog food for the last five days but she still has not pooped. She has been drinking water and peeing fine throughout her whole illness. She has little mobility at the moment and may have had a stroke as a result of the IMHA episode. She has been seen by a vet but that was a week ago. Should I be concerned about her not pooping yet?

Hello - and Im sorry that you and your girl are having such a hard time.  You mentioned the apparent stroke almost as an afterthought and I'm not clear whether a vet has seen her since then or not - if not, then this could be an emergency and you should call for triage.  Brain signs and poor mobility (which may explain her poor appetite) are worrying.  A lack of appetite may be linked to pain or directly to brain problems.  Lack of deafecation isnt a problem in itself - unless a patient is trying to force a poo but can't, or the bowels are over-full.   However, I am making general comments here because I cannot examine the patient.  It sounds as though that veterinary check, or at least detailed triage, is needed in order that someone can answer your questions and help to figure out the reason for her not wanting to eat.

Ps because IMHA was involved, I understabd that the lack of eating could be to do with tiredness / weakness.   The lack of faeces may simply be connected with this.  However, if you are not happy with the amount that a patient is eating, it is always preferable to have them checked.
