Honestly, I'm just looking for advice on my dogs situation. Below is a full catalogue of events up to today, kind of explains itself. 21st June -Vomiting. 28th June -Vomiting and diarrhea. 27th June -More vomiting and diarrhea. -Started a probiotic. 29th June -Threw up bile at at 23:00. 30th June - £1963.45 -Had X-Ray, vets worried about blockage on xray (gas pocket and maybe a sock on X-Ray (No idea how he would have eaten this)). -£900 -Had surgery to check for blockage (no blockage found). -He was cut open along the belly and to the side of the penis. -A hard stool was in the intestines near the end and seemed like it would have come out. -Stool was pushed out manually by vets. -Intestines were not cut open. -No biopsy was taken due to not wanting the additional risk of infection since there seemed to be no reason to do one?. -Intestines were purple in color when opened up which was concerning but returned to pink by the end of surgery?. -Lymph nodes a little swollen during surgery?. -No information given about the above two things, didn't seem to have an explanation for them. -Given painkillers and two seperate anti biotics. -£1063.45 -Switched food to chicken and rice. 3rd July -First poop post surgery. 7th July -We start switching him back to his dry food (mixing it in with chicken and rice and transitioning over the next 3-4 days). Essentially dog has been fine for almost 2 weeks post-surgery. 11th July -Fed full meal at 8:00 (dry food with water). -Pooped at 11:00. -Fed full meal at 12:00 (dry food with water). -Fed full meal at 17:00 (dry food with water). -Fed full meal at 23:00 (dry food with water). 12th July -retched in the morning (7 hours without eating) -> threw up some bile. -Pooped at 6:30. -Fed half serving at 6:30 (dry food with water). -Fed half serving at 8:00 (dry food with water). -Pooped at 11:00. -Fed full meal at 12:00 (dry food with water). -Fed full meal at 23:00 (dry food with water). 13th July -retched in the morning (7 hours without eating) -> threw up some bile. -Pooped at 6:30. -Fed at 6:45. -Threw up meal at 9:00. -Fed half serving at 10:00 (dry food with water). -Pooped at 11:00. -Fed half serving at 12:00 (dry food with water). -Fed half serving at 17:15 (dry food with water). -Threw up bile at 21:00. -Grumbling noises from dogs tummy at 21:40 (This is new)? -Since there was no food thrown up and we fed him less today and there was bile, perhaps he threw up because his stomach was empty like he does on some mornings? -Decided to feed him chicken and rice at 23:00, not sure what to do? Additional Notes -Found out dog next door also started having diarrhea on or around when my dog had surgery - probably unrelated. Ruling stuff out -No signs of pain. -No whining. -No putting head on the ground with butt in the air. -No swelling. -No lethargy. -Abdomen does not feel bloated. -Not overweight. -Not underweight. -No blood in vomit. -No blood in bile. -No blood in stool. -He's only gone outside on a lead for over 2 weeks, rest of the time in the living room with me and wife under constant supervision, no chance of him eating anything. -No signs of worm in poop. -No pot belly -No bruises. -No loss of hair. -No additional or extreme malting. -No breathing problems. -No loss of apetite (even post vomiting). -No loss of wanting to drink water (even post vomiting). -No dry gums. -No loss of energy, wants to play, wants to do stuff. -No discharge. -No wounds or sores.

Hello - it sounds as though your dog is being treated for ongoing GI signs - regular sickness and sometimes diarrhoea, sometimes hard faeces.  That an ex-lap was done to rule out a blockage due to some suspicious shapes on the radiographs at the time, but fortunately no foreign body was found.  The vets report that the intestine walls were an odd colour, perhaps due to impeded blood flow from constipation(?), which was relieved during the surgery. I wonder whether in-depth tests for pancreatitis have been carried out, because not all dogs with pancreatitis conveniently demonstrate the 'prayer position' and pancreatitis doesn't usually show on routine bloods.  I think a good question for your vet is what may be left to rule out, and what their next proposed stop would be.  Are there any dietary modifications that may prove beneficial?  If they are not clear, your vet could speak to a friendly lab pathologist or referral vet.   I have never heard of an animal vomiting just because their stomach is empty - in my experience, this is a bit of a tale.  Usually there is some underlying cause.  This sounds to be an interesting case - but love to your dog because no dog wants to be an interesting case.  Please will you let us know how the case proceeds?

I appreciate your response. Just an update as requested, at least we have some direction now. 14th July -Threw up bile at 4:55 (5 and a half hours without eating). -Pooped at 5:25. -Fed half serving of chicken and rice at 5:30. -Fed half serving of chicken and rice at 8:30. -Threw up at 11:10, there was a little bit of blood in the vomit. -Went to the vets again at 11:50. -Checked him out, heart and lungs sound good. -No fever, temperature is good. -Gums and teeth are good. -Showed video of him vomiting and gave full logs. -Vet showed surgeon, surgeon looked through logs and saw video. -Surgeon and vet both think the small amount of blood is irritation from all the vomiting. -Surgeon seems to think its the food since thats all that has changed and he was well for 2 weeks on bland food. -Switching food to gastrointestinal food and seeing if we get any improvement. -Vet and surgeon don't think its pancreas related since no signs other than the vomiting. -Still has no abdominal pain in any way, no signs of hardness, no flinching or whining ever with firm pressure. -If food switch doesn't work, we'll try hypoallergenic food. -If neither food switch works we'll be doing full bloods and an ultrasound since the vet has cleared everything from the stomach down.

It sounds as though there's a plan in place!  Thanks for the update and best of luck
