i just had a question about my dog wondering if anyone could help me, my dog is having anal gland issues. I think one may be infected, it's red and sometimes bleeding right below the anus, I tried every vet in my area and the latest appointment I could get is Monday morning. he doesn't seem to be in pain as he's running around like normal. still eating and still has his zoomies and lets me touch the area to put a warm compress on it, the only thing I've noticed is his bowel movements aren't as big and he takes two attempts at making one. is he going to be ok until Monday and is there anything I can do in the meantime until the vet sees him? thank you in advance363826042_6984524628236868_4261399891071218303_n

Hello - it sounds as though you have spoken to a few vets about this, who have hopefully performed a process called triage in order to establish whether they feel the patient is a priority for an appointment.   If there is pain of deafecating, for example, a patient may be seen sooner, but this very much needs to be decided by the veterinary surgeons concerned.

If this hasn't happend, it may be worth calling them and asking for the case to be triaged.  This is because I can't see enough to judge this from here and because  (most commonly) pain and licking or even movement in the case of a foreign body, could make things worse.

thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, there isn't anything else the vet can do until Monday now as they aren't open on weekends and I can't afford emergency services. is there anything at home I can do to help him in the meantime? I've been feeding him wet food with oil but he hasn't had a bowel movement all-day, is there anything i can do to encourage a bowel movement and maybe soften it so it's not as hard on him? and is there anything i can get topical wise or any cream/ointments I can get? I've noticed he's been licking it and has licked it raw to the point where it's bleeding sometimes, I've been trying to stop him now as much as I can from licking it, also would any more pictures from any other angles help? sorry for the long message I'm really scared and can't find any help online or anything. thanks for any help
