Hello - I do not know the answer to this question and in any case, it is not safe or fair to over-rule your vets' recommendation, out of context, for a dog I have never seen, whose age, condition, breed and past history I don't know. This is the sort of question that needs to be assessed with reference to the individual dog. In your position I would ask a lot of questions: what is your main concern about this animal having puppies? What percentage chance of that outcome do you expect? Can you refer me to a research paper or simar showing this to be true? If not, could you refer me to a specialist in the matter in order that I can discuss it with them? Would an elective c-section solve any of the problems, if we promise to make arrangements to have the litter neutered? I am sorry not to be more helpful in this case.
