Scab on nose

Hi! I found this scab on my cat's nose. Could you tell me if I should be worried and bring him to his vet?   Background information:

• 1 year old male, neutered, vaccinations & other preventative treatments up to date
• I bring him on walks (leashed), only go early in the morning or late evening to avoid sunburns & heatstrokes. We have however been having a hard time with mosquitoes (I try to shoo them away when I see them on him but some still manage to sneak on him) (I use DEET free mosquito spray on myself but not on him, let me know if I can)
• 

Aw, you sound to be a very caring owner.  I'm not sure what this is from here; a small lump or tumour, midge bite / flea bite / flea dirt, a spot of occular or nasal discharge, could all be on the list.  A scab would soon drop off.  However, I can tell you that your vet may well be able to prescribe something that will help with the midges - and at the time time have a quick look at it so that if it is attached / part of the skin, they can let you know their procedures for finding out more.

Hi Dr. Buchanan! Thank you so much for your reply! The scab (or whatever it was) seems to look better now (not really sure)? My cat has his annual exam on September 11th. I will ask his vet about it. Should I book an earlier appointment? Thanks!

Hello - I cannot see a progression in either direction from these photos and it is up to your vet to triage / offer an appointment accordingly.  Although this is not obviously Ringworm, it may be on the list and therefore they might want to evaluate the situation sooner rather than later.

Sometimes, for something quick and superficial, if no further treatment is needed then the vet may be prepared to vaccinate slightly early in order to avoid a wasted trip.
