Hello! - that could be a fat roll. Its your vets' job to put it into context. Is your dog slowing down / heart beating slower / developing a palpable goitre / putting on weight in which case hypothyroidism could be a contributing factor and your vet may want to test for it? Could the lump be cancerous? Is it more likely to be a thickening of the fat tissue in just one spot, known as a 'lipoma?' (We used to cut these out - nowadays we treat it as a form of obesity). Alternatively, could it be an odd accumulation of fluid or infection? When your vet has listed the possibilities, it will become clear to them what they need to rule out first. I therefore strongly advocate talking this through with them as early as you can.
