Hi, this morning i noticed my dog scratching her tummy non stop. So i flipped her over and saw she had several red raised bumps all over her tummy. The ones she could reach she scratched open. I gave her a bath and gave her some allergex (previously recommended by a vet for her food allergy itching). I wanted to know if its safe if i put chamomile on the spots to help with the itching also? Im taking her to the vet tomorrow (they closed today as its sunday) but just want to help relieve some of the itching in the meantime. Note, she is a fatty so she cant reach the spots to lick nor does her back legs (that she scratches with) reach her mouth so she cant ingest it. Also should i put on her doggy jacket so she cant scratch or will it irritate the skin more?

Hello!   Hopefully by now, your vet will have seen the patient and appropriate treatment will have been given.  For me, there are two questions being asked here - the first, is whether Chamomile is safe.  Well, there are many different presentations of chamomile treatments used at different doses and in different ways; I am in no position to vouch for the safety of all of them.  Drugs require stringent testing before they are sold; the same is not true for many lotions and ointments and chamomile has proved to be toxic in some circumstances.  A further complication might be, whether the problem is likely to get worse in the phase where an unproven interim treatment is being given? - Overall, I would always advocate going straight to the vet where possible.
