Brown patch under cat chin

I noticed my tuxedo cat seems to have a brown patch of fur under their chin and was wondering if anyone knew what it could be. I’m also not sure if it just looks brown because the hair is sparse there. Google says it could be feline acne but I don’t feel any bumps and he eats from a stainless steel bowl. Thanks everyone

Hello - The first thing that your vet will do with this is to try to describe it.  They will want to understand how recent a change it is (if it is a change at all), how big; whether the skin is affected or just the hair.  They will also check, where hair has an undercoat, whether it is the 'under-hair' or the outer level that is affected. It could be, once they have examined it, that a skin treatment, biopsy, or tests for endocrine changes might be perhaps be required.

I also wonder whether a small non-itchy mite called a demodex might be involved.

The latter is detected with skin-scrapes.  Ringworm may make another differential, although it doesn't usually look like this.

Where ringworm is suspected, there will be procedures to follow in order to keep yourself safe, including not touching the area, keeping away from immuno-compromised people and hand-washing.  Therefore, please do report this to your vet right away, just in case.
