Generally there is a continuity of seeing the same vet although recently this has not been the case with various random vets being on duty. I see continuity as being important as the vet then knows your pet and is better able to asses there condition. I am hopeful that this will get fixed. Shauna is an excellent receptionist who makes you feel welcome and looks after you whilst you are waiting. Also she is very helpful in assisting you to get the most suitable time slot. The vets are all of a high standard which is essential when you are entrusting your pets to them. Having had bad experiences with other vetinary practices in the past I will now only use Downes and recommend them. My Cavalier King Charles has had many problems over the last 6 years and Downes has dealt with all of them very effectively referring to Dick White Referrals when appropriate. The only improvement would be to deal with the insurance claims directly as they did in the past before being taken over.

My dog had a minor procedure today for a foreign object to be removed from her paw. I was given a breakdown of the charges for this operation and was astonished to see that I was being charged £31.50 for a bandage! Shocking.

Took my cat to the vets today and now feel as if I have been mugged. He had a claw which had bent over into his pad and I didn't feel I could cut it and pull it out myself. The vet cut it but because it hurt my cat he struggled and she could not pull the small piece out of his pad. She said she would take him through the back and let the nurse wrap him in a towel in order to carry out the procedure. The vet came back and said they couldn't get near him and he would need sedating. He is usually a very placid cat. As he would be sedated for only a very short time I could pick him up in an hour. Total cost £368.77. I was charged £225 for the sedation and £65.69 for hospitalisation for about an hour. I asked the receptionist how much a neutering would be and was told about £60 which would have included a sedative and presumably a short stay to see if all was well afterwards. How can waiting for my cat to come round after a sedative result in a £65.69 charge? Now feeing extremely depressed as the cost of keeping any animal seems now to be prohibitive.
