Hello, Our 12 year old Staffordshire Bullterrier will from time to time have a really gurgling stomach, so loud you can hear it across the room. The gurgles are loud and when this happens she will not eat her dinner, she isn’t hungry. We get a buscopan down her and by the morning she is hungry again. My Mum has been writing it down in her diary and noticed it has been fortnightly but not all the times. Slight pancreastitis maybe? she is due for her vaccinations & we are going to look at getting her a full blood panel.

Hello and I'm sorry to hear that your dog is having a problem with her belly.   You are right in that borborygmi (thats the posh medical term for it) is a sign of pancreatitis.  This is frequently accompanied by other signs; abdominal pain, cramping, nausea etc but sometimes any other signs can be completely masked by the patient and the gurgly stomach alone is noticable.  In this case, refusing food could be a sign of nausea, which would fit with  pancreatitis.  There are also other explanations;  swallowing a lot of air when eating and consuming gas-producing bacteria and foodstuffs, for example.  Swallowing abnormalities have also been implicated.  We would reccommend seeing your vet.
