Hello! My 3yrs old cat is pooping with blood but is not showing any other symptoms. He's eating, drinking and urinating just fine. It's been 8 days since it started and I've tried changing his diet and all but only the consistency of his stool got better. Although his poops are mostly firm, it's still tinged with blood. Over the course of 8 days, he only managed to pass a normal stool twice. The first one happened when I switched to his usual catfood and the second one happened the morning of september 11. He's currenlt on immune system enhancer, lc vit with lysine and water w/ dextrose powder. His diet is dry kibbles, with wetfood and a teaspoon of pumpkin puree that I made. Please let me know what could be the problem. I also saw some white worm like stuff in his poop clumped together like a flower petal. I'm not sure if it was worms but it wasn't moving. His stool this afternoon is also almost bloodless itself but there's a drop of blood a few inches away from the poop. It's not mixed with the poop at all. Please help, thankyou.

Hello - broadly, there are two kinds of blood.  Black, or digested, blood represents a bleed quite high up in the digestive tract eg the stomach or first part of the small intestine (or even coughed up and swallowed from the lungs), after which the blood is digested - turns black.  However, as you describe 'blood,' this suggests that the stuff is red, which would suggest a bleed lower down in the gut eg the large intestine, after any blood added to the tract has had chance to be digested. Indeed, this would be typical in worm-related bleeding and if this did not begin directly following the administration of a worming tablet, then it may be that one is merited.  Your vet is the best judge of this however and you may like to call and let them know the signs in order to get an appropriately timed appointment.  Other causes may include a bleeding tumour in that part of the gut or even a general clotting problem.  Taking a picture of the worm-like things is helpful if you have chance.   I hope that something there helps.
