Anal gland swelling

Hi, I noticed this evening a swelling at the 4 o’clock position at my dogs anus. He has been licking it non stop. Unfortunately all my nearest vets are closed until Monday - am I able to try expressing it myself or will my dog be okay to wait until Monday?

Hello - I think that this would be very sore left until Monday and am not going to suggest that you squeeze an anal gland.   Your dog appears to need an examination and appropriate pain releif as licking can cause extensive damage, so it sounds to be very worth chatting through the available options with your vets' out of hours team, who are licensed to advise you.

They may be happy to advise to some extent over the phone.
