Hi vets. Quick question but long post. My cat is being treated for IBD and extremely low B12. She had her first shot last week. Prior to this she was on antibiotics for 2 weeks for soft stool. Her bowel movements improved and were still good for about a week and half after the meds were done.  She had her first b13 shot last week, but a few days ago I noticed her stool was back to what we've been describing as soft serve Fast forward to yestersay, I took her In for her 2nd shot and advised her stool was back to soft serve up to and including monday. She was given another week of the metro. I gave her a dose yesterday afternoon but last night i noticed she may have had a normal bowel movement. Anyway, my question is she has had 2 doses of the metro (0.6 c), but is she okay if I don't give her anymore of the metro as it does seem the b12 is helping the bowel movements now and i guess I was just being impatient and needed to give the shots time to level out. Basically I am just concerned, if there's any harm being done to her by giving the antibiotics if she no longer has the diarrhea (with no relation to the metro resolving the issue, but actually the b12 is what has helped)   I Have no issues continuing to give the metro for the week, but was worried if they cause her more harm then good, as there's nothing for the antibiotics to fix now   Tha   Thanks in advance

Hello there   I beleive that the general advice given to vets is only to treat diarrhoea with antibiotics, when targetetting specific microbes eg Giardia, that are known to be present.  Because I did not prescribe the antibiotics in this case, and because I am not in a position to understand the rationale behind giving them to this particular patient, I am certainly not in a position, legally or scientifically, to give you advice.  Therefore I think that you should consult your vet, or if the decision cannot wait then their night cover, as regards what to do from here.  Wishing you all the best.

(With any prescription, always continue until / unless told to stop by your vet).
