Hello,
I noticed a small black growth under my french bulldogs eye a couple of months or so ago, i mentioned it to my vet and they didnt seem too bothered by it!
he actually scratched it off a little while ago, it was bleeding but healed quickly however it has now grown back but bigger!
it doesnt seem to bother him but wondering if its anything I should be concerned about?
Hello! With lumps like this, always check that it isn't a tick (unlikely in this case as ticks don't really hold on for ten months - more like a few days - and it sounds as though the vet has checked it out too). A keratin 'skin tag' would often be little to worry about, but skin lumps can have all sorts of outer appearances and most vets will opt to remove or biopsy the lesion if they are in doubt. Finally, irritation and bleeding can relate to even benign lumps, and if this is happening then a quick review might prove a good idea, especially if the lesion were growing or at risk of becoming infected.
All the best and please do let us know how you get on.
For more information about unidentified lumps, I wrote an article in the blog and several more have been written by other vets since then. Simply visit our blog and search 'lump' or 'skin lump'.
