Hi, I took my 9 year old exotic shorthair cat to the vet a few days ago as she's been vomiting - a little bit more than usual.
Can you please explain what you think this result mean? It's difficult for me to understand it. Thanks.
All the other results from the test are within normal range.
She is getting an ultrasound on Monday.
Should I be concerned about these results? Thanks
Hello - There is a mistaken idea that vets take blood, put it into a machine and the machine tells us what is wrong with the animal. It is the saddest truth in our world that this isn't the case. Your vet has much more information than us - they have evaluated the patient as a whole, possibly double-checked some of those results by a different method depending on their blood machine, possibly adminitered some treatment or possibly not, and decided that the best thing to do woukd be to book an ultrasound for Monday. They have, at this stage, much more information than us and it is beyond the scope of this service to provide second opinions.
However, I can see what you are worried about (bright red numbers can be nerve wracking) so here are things that it sounds as though you need to ask your vet:
Should I be concerned about the things in red on this print out? ...and..... Why are we seeing this?
I wonder whether the ultrasound will check the pancreas, which as it happens is a frequent cause of recurrent vomitting, or whether they are looking for something different. What is the plan for looking after your cat in the mean-time? The last is important to be clear on.
I'm sorry not to offer you extra wisdom, but your vet really is a good course of information here.
