Cat horned paws?

from my Google searching, I believe my cat has a horned paw. A little scab looking area on his one toe bean. I only noticed it because I could hear it on the hardwoods when we walked. It doesn't seem to bother him, just curious if this warrants a vet visit (traumatic for all of us involved!) Thanks!

Frequently, these are simply a build-up of keratin (hard skin) on the bottom of the foot, but why would it suddenly happen in just one toe?  This could be due to a change in gait e.g. due to arthritis, causing a reluctance for weight-bearing in that direction.  Other possibilities include fungal disease or a tumour.  Because we don't know what the change represents in your cats' case, we would definitely advise talking it over with your vet.  Best of luck.
