My cat has feline leukemia and has developed anemia for the second time in his lifespan. The first time one year ago, he did not have a fever, but last night he had a fever of 106 when he was at Emergency Vet, but got it down to 104 and sent him home with Metacam and Doxycycline. My question is, can the feline leukemia + anemia be the cause of the fever, or does the fever seem like it could be coming from an infection? If so, do you think the doxycycline will clear up the infection and help reduce fever? My concern is Metacam and the side effects it has on cats. Do you think it would benefit my cat who has a fever and help reduce his fever, or am I better off just trying the Doxycycline?

Hello!  Anaemia is not a disease, but a symptom of a disease, defined as being too few red blood cells.  There are many different causes of anaemia but it pays to know which one your cat has.  Feline leukemia may be one of the causes.   However, for the cause of the fever in this cat, you will need to speak to the vet who knows this particular case.  FeLV cats may develop fevers for other reasons too.
