I asked my vet to start adequan for my dogs osteoarthritis and she prescribed chondroprotec. Everything I am reading online says this is for wounds and cannot find any reliable information stating chondroprotec is safe for injections to treat osteoarthritis. Is chondroprotec safe for this use or should I purchase adequan instead? My vet is unreliable and did not answer my questions, simply told me “it’s fine”.

What a fascinating question.  On what basis did you ask your vet to start Adequan?  It sounds as though you know this drug or beleive it to be safe.  On what basis do you think that Chondroprotec may not be safe?  Is it simply that you have heard of one before and not the other, or is there more to it than that?

Hello, thank you for your reply. My dog has osteoarthritis and I have had her on glucosamine supplements for some time without significant benefit. I was researching other treatments and found adequan. The reason I am concerned about chondroprotec is because everything I am reading online about this medication says it is for wounds. I am unable to find any sources stating that it is safe for subQ injections to treat osteoarthritis.
