Dog sneezing alot

Hi my husky mix has been sneezing alot, ears feel warm. Can it be allergies? Can I try benadryl? He's almost 4 years old. Wighs approx 100lbs

Hello - yes dogs are sometimes prescribed antihistamines including the one you mention, and one of the reasons is for allergies, but as with any drug it ought to be prescribed by the dogs' own vet as appropriate to the individual concerned.   There are some conitions in which it shuldnt be prescribed. Dogs can sneeze for a variety of reasons and ambient pollen triggering allergy is only one of these.   A lot of dogs will get improve after a day or two whether or not a drug is given, so it is very difficult to say conclusively whether it was the drug that provided releif in any particular dog on any particular occasion.  My understanding is that there is not the evidence for a solid conclusion.  For continuous sneezing, for scratching at the nose or for blood in sneeze / discharge, always see your vet right away.

Hello - yes, dogs are sometimes prescribed antihistamines to treat allergies, including the one you mention, but drugs given to animals legally need to be prescribed by the dogs' own vet and need to be appropriate to the individual concerned.   Some antihistamines can react with other drugs / conditions to cause problems and furthermore, the effectiveness is not well scientifically documented - as far as I am aware, the evidence of the effectiveness of antihistamines is poor. Dogs can also sneeze for other reasons than allergies;  tumours, foreign bodies and infectious diseases, may get worse before getting appropriate treatment if the pet is not examined.  For these reasons we do not reccommend giving antihistamines to your dog without your vets say so.
