Not an emergency! I have a neutered male dog. He’s a bulldog/beagle mix. 7 years old. On apoquel and Prozac daily. On sunday i noticed he came downstairs from a nap and was limping. I gave him doggy aspirin and kept an eye on him. Monday morning he was fine and walking great. Today I noticed his one toe is swollen. He keeps licking it. He doesn’t not cry when I touch it or his paw and is walking fine. It feels kind of hard almost like a fruit that isn’t ripe. We have an appointment this weekend just wanted to see if anyone could say the cause or if it’s an infection!

Hello!  When there is licking to the extent that the fur is turning brown, this often suggests pain or severe irritation.  Possibilities may include an infection or abscess around the nail-bed or P3 bone, a foreign body, or even arthritis in the joint or cancer of the bone underneath.  Bite wounds or other now-scabbed over penetrating wounds in the area could conceivably have led to infection.  This foot needs to see a vet for treatment.  Depending on the cause, it is even possible that a radiograph may be required to check out the bone before diagnosis.   Please do let us know your boy (who does sound gorgeous) gets on.
