Hi question for the Veterinarians . I have a almost 9 year old Labrador , I noticed this morning that he has a dry maybe cracked nose . He does have a couple of health issues a grade 5 out of 6 heart murmur, very enlarged heart which is pressing on his trachea and severe congestive heart failure. He was seen by vet yesterday for his heart (his nose was not like this yesterday or would off mentioned it the vet). He has slightly potassium and will be starting a potassium supplement he also take 6mg Torsemide and 5 mg twice a day of vetmedin . Do any of the vets have any idea what the issue is with his nose. I have ruled out HNPK based on that usually starts at a young age before they are 12 mth - but I could be wrong. Thank you in advanceIMG-20210420-WA0005IMG_20210420_143057

Hello!   Joe Dunne wrote a blog-post for us about the wetness of dogs' noses, in which he explains that having a dry nose isn't necessarily a sign of ill-heath https://vethelpdirect.com/vetblog/2021/02/22/why-is-a-dogs-nose-wet/. Sometimes it can be a mild sign of dehydration (drinking little and often throughout the day can help), sometimes to do with the weather conditions or a heavy centrally-heated environment, drying the nose from the surface.  In dogs where this is persistent and problematic, some vets recommend applying certain moisturising products, but that's a decision for you and your vet to make together as noses are also very sensitive and some household products may also be harmful. Best of luck and please do let us know how you get on!

Hi Liz, Thank you for your reply , I will take a look at Joe blog he wrote , we have had some nice weather but he has been indoors as he struggles with his resp rate in this hot weather we have had, He does drink lots of water due to the Torsemide for his severe heart failure. I think I will see if it clears over the next couple of days and if it doesn't will take him to our vet , if it get worse will obviously take him to be seen sooner. Poor boy really going through it at the moment, having only just been diagnosed 6 week ago with his hear issues.

A few more possibilities include Demodex, ringworm (skin parasites) and hormonal diseases.  Your vet may well offer to test for these if they are concerned.
