Hi all! My 5 year old Rottweiler was just diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. I have to administer her meds every 12 hours for the rest of her life and I’m wondering if anybody else has experience with how to administer the meds if you aren’t going to be home or available during one of the 12 hour med times, is there any sort of dispenser or has anyone found a way or do I always have to be therefor those two 12 hour marks for the rest of her life? lol thank you!

Hello and thank you for this interesting question, which it is quite difficult to answer without an understanding of which medication your rotweiller needs to take, or why that one was chosen.    However, your vet will have (and should even have supplied you with) a 'data sheet.'  This is a peice of paper typically covered in black and white dense text, explaining what the medication is and discussing the 'rules' of giving it, ideally with reasons.   This sounds to be a good place to start and I would firmly encourage you to to speak wiith your vet to speak to you about it directly.  Where timing intervals is important, Some meds can be effectively hidden in food which can be exposed for eating at set times should aninals be alone.  However, having epileptic animals alone by themselves fot long periods can bring concerns of its own so a conversation with your vet, about the flexibility of that and alternative meds, would be reccommended.
