Hello there, I have a 5 and a half month old german shepherd puppy. She has been having a soft stool and occasional diarrhea for a while now, so I took her to our vet, we collected some stool samples and she tested positive for giardia. Today we started her on fenbendazole (Panacur) and I’m also giving her probiotics as recommended by our vet. Yesterday she started having extreme diarrhea, it’s very liquid and she poops more often then usual. I’m hoping that Panacur and probiotics will fix that, and I am wondering how soon can I expect to see improvement? And also, is there anything else I could give her to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalance due to diarrhea? Other than giardia, she’s perfectly healthy, ideal weight, healthy teeth, skin and coat.

Hello and I'm so sorry to hear of your puppy's difficulties.  Hopefully you are aware yhat humans also get Giardia, so please pay very strong attention to personal hygeine at this time; your vet should advise you if you are not sure how to clean up and ought not mind repeating themselves if asked.   When fluid loss of this scale has happened, I am concerned that she has potentially lost a lot of fluid and your vet may need to put her on a drip, so it is definitely worth calling your vet and running this development by them sooner, rather than later in order to check whether a repeat consultation is in order.
