Our rabbit is currently grieving the loss of his female bunny companion. Our bun is a 2yo male mini lop who is also deaf. We are looking to get him a new companion to bond with but we have received very mixed advice on what may be best for these bonding circumstances. We've been told male male bonding is easier than male female, but we've also been told the opposite. We want to help him find a friend so that the symptoms of grieving will lessen.

Hello!   I'm sorry that you lost your female bunny and it's lovely that you are considering another to help your two-year-old.  I always understood that (neutered!) male-female pairings work the best.  This article is from our blog, and answers a fair few of the questions that you have (if the link doesn't work, go into the 'blog' area of our website, and search for rabbit, fighting).  Bonding a new pair of rabbits is not easy and should be done carefully, over time, ideally with an agreement in place with the seller in case it doesn't work out and paying attention to the rabbits' vaccination schedules.  It is recommended to start with them in separate housing, slowly allowing them sight and smell of each other, before introducing them in a neutral space.   The rabbit wealfare association are also a good source of information about this.   Please do let us know how you get on.
