Hi, my hamster has a lump next to his mouth. It was small but started to grow. What can it be? Is it dangerous? What is recommended  to do? Thanks in advance!Collage_2023-11-04_12_00_10

Hello - i can't see this lump particularly well but would always reccommend that your vets look at it.  There are multiple possibilities for what it could be, ranging from benign cancers to aggressive ones, papillomas to abscesses, even a reaction to heavy saliva in that area.  Your vet may not he able to tell and in that case, may offer remnoval for biopsy.

Your vet will be able to see their patient in context.  I am not sure whether there are changes to the fur or skin leading down the abdomen or not from this photo, but if so, your vet  will be able to see immediately and reccommend and treatment or tests.

Im afraid that the way to assess the dangerousness of this lump would be to closely examine the patient and then possibly, if still not sure, sample it.  If you type 'lump' into the blog, most articles probably refer to cats and dogs.  However the same considerations hold true for hamsters.
