Hi vets and techs... How soon before starting another ssri after stopping another one My dog has been on Prozac along with training to help his aggression issues. We've actually weened him off because we felt it wasn't all that great. After we lowered the dosage we noticed how much more "bad" he was off of it. He's only been off since the 26th of this month. The way he was weaned his Prozac was... He has been on 40mg from two years. We went down to 20mg for 3 weeks, then 10mg for 3 weeks, then 5mg for 3 weeks, then 5mg every other day for two weeks. We were leaning towards Zoloft. The more sedative behavior meds isn't the path we want to go down even though I know Zoloft can have some sleepy sides.

Hi - sedating dogs for behavioural aggression isn't really something I have ever recommended and I don't remember ever having prescribed Prozac for dogs.  From your post there is presumably a qualified behavioural veterinary surgeon who actually knows your dog and has the appropriate experience, prescribing these drugs and treatment, so it is not appropriate for me to advise you on this case. If you are not satisfied with the treatment that you are receiving and not already seeing a qualified behavioural specialist, then a referral seems to be an appropriate step forward.   Wishing you all the best.

(I understand that this answer may seem unhelpful, but if a pet is already receiving treatment under a vet for a behavioural condition, then it is inappropriate for a random vet to pitch up and say, 'Hey!  I'd do this!' because I don't have a fraction of the history on your dog that your vets have.  Discussion with your GP vet or, if you are unhappy with them, then with a specialist in the field, is always the best answer that we can give in this case).
