Someone please help a girl out. Some people think my dogs pregnant. I don't know what to think. She's definitely eating a lot between her food and house food but i think she's just missing proteins having the wrong foods but I'm not entirely sure. And panting a lot faster in this heat as i have came to believe. But I just like to also think it's age. She's 5 years old and she's a chauhaha terrier ... last time she was in heat was around July 3rd to the 18th around that time. I did catch her a few times with a fixed male dog and showing dominance to a girl dog. And i did try to cut it out the few times I noticed it and made her stay on my porch or under the car port if she went out. Because even though it was no harm I didn't want her to think she could get like that with any dog. She came home one day she ended up going somewhere and showed up with patches of hair missing, that's originally when I was hesitant on letting her out alone at all because i noticed now she wasn't gonna listen about staying in my area. She loves her outside time , sun bathing is her thing, so she was mad about it. I thought it mightve just been from the heat a rash. I'm not entirely sure what happen. But that's better now. Anyways this far out I personally am in denial. I'd think if she was she'd show more by now. But I'm not entirely sure. Never dealt with this. The days I found her with the marks on her was about July 5th. A few days later these other two boy dogs show up. Not knowing where they came from. I tried to only let her out when I didn't see them around. they got risky to get on my porch and I thought they mightve just been hungry so I've gotten them water and food and when she went out I'd lock her in my small yard area. With that said. She's learned to manage to escape a few times. I have no idea how . The gate doors are tied on by rope so I thought maybe through the cracks or maybe a whole in the gate where the tree leaves hide I'm not entirely sure caught one of the dogs trying to have his way with her on the 10th of July. But between being a single mom having a toddler and now a risky in heat dog. I've never had these problems with her. Never thought she'd run off as much as she did. But she did. I kept her in most the time until she finished her cycle and I tried to keep an eye as much as possible but when I hear mommy that means duty calls and sometimes momma can't be two places at once. But anyways. Can someone tell me what I'm seeing and what to expect please 🙏 I honestly don't know. FB_IMG_1693056558974FB_IMG_1693056577051FB_IMG_1693056573719

Hello.  Your female dog was in season in early (let's say mid- to be sure) July; it is now 26th August so she would be an minimum of about 4 weeks.   At this stage you still might not see much.  Enlarging abdomen, darkening or increasingly prominent teats, panting etc. are possible signs that you might gradually spot.  However, sometimes abdomens swell for other reasons e.g. heart disease or worms, when there is no pregnancy.  But it sounds as though she had multiple opportunities where she may have been in unsupervised contact with boy dogs - and there were some hanging around.  So it is definitely one possibility.

What to do now?  We would recommend getting in touch with your vet.  Pregnancy diagnosis can be done fairly reliably now with an ultrasound probe, and also to rule out some alternative causes of a bloated abdomen in middle-aged female dogs.  If you are offered an appointment, let the receptionist know what it is for because waiting-lists are long at the moment and it may be that this particular appointment can be prioritized.   "Misalliance" - that's the cold, medical name for it- is much more common than you'd think and please, don't worry about the vet judging you or your dog.  The important thing now is to understand the options available, to understand any options that might be available and to make the right decisions.

(Re-reading that, I hear that 4 weeks is probably overcompensatingly cautious.   Six to eight weeks is more likely, is it not?)

I honestly don't know. This would be her first liter so if she was 6 to 8 weeks I'm not sure what's expected and how she should look at that time. All I know is she got hurt the 5th. Seen them around her around the 10th on and off until the 12 to the 14th. And that's when I kept a closer eye on her. And kept her in more and limited her sun bathing. Which she was not so proud of. Until the 25th I made sure she was fully done with discharge.
