Hi, My 12 year old mongrel has severe knuckling on his back legs and is struggling to walk. He drags both of his legs when he walks. The vet has given us pain killers but I was wondering if anyone has found solutions for  knuckling on rear legs that they could share? I'm trying to find any methods that may help, thanks

Hello - that looks uncomfortable; is your vet aware of the knuckling?  I wonder whether the nerves down the legs are working correctly, which could be checked with a neurological exam.   Usually, if a dog is aware that their foot is upside down, they will turn it the correct way up if they can.  If they do not, it implies a neurological problem or severe weakness.  This is not something that can be treated by reading a mild home remedy from the internet and there are only a few presentations of this that can be treated using full-strength drugs; Im afraid that a vet visit to understand the underlying condition is the firstline treatment here. If you explain the situation over the phone - depending on the history - your vet may class it as an emergency.

I think, reading through, that you may have been to the vet since your dog was like this;  I wonder what a neurological showed and what the vet recommended as the plan from here?
