My dog had TPLO 6 months ago. She now intermittently limps when fast trotting (at no other time). Vet examination didn't identify any clicking. Rest&meds hasn't resolved it either. Without clicking sound, how else can it be diagnosed and if it was iliopsoas issue, is that diagnosed by ultrasound.  Also would you have iliopsoas as a secondary issue with something else being the primary cause?  The physio said she has a muscle trigger point on her back near the rear leg and I'm wondering if the iliopsoas is giving some grief Tbanks

Hello - TPLO is usually the treatment for a torn cranial cruciate ligament and does not tend to be an overnight fix- rather, steady rehabilitation is needed, although to my understanding, the success rate from surgery tends to be relatively good.  An iliopsoas tear can occur secondarily to a cranial cruciate problem, but is certainly not the only reason for limping after a TPLO.  I am not sure to where these questions are leading, but both before and after a TPLO, I would expect checks and discussions with your veterinary team about a pets' progress vs their expectations.  This helps to set your expectations around recovery. Hopefully something here is useful?

To my understanding, many dogs that suffer a CCL rupture already have arthritic change to some extent, so some degree of limping may be expected later.  The trouble is that I cannot explain what reasonable expectations or possible complicating factors were for your dog, because I do not know anything about them.  This is always something to discuss with a team about the particular patient at the time of surgery, but you should always be able to take outstanding concerns back to the team.  The fact that you've asked here suggests some kind of concern, but it may be unhelpful to have a general conversation if you have in mind a specific situation, about which more targeted advice might be more useful.  I hope that something here proves useful.
