Hi, 13 year old Max has a cycle of feeling really good. He runs around chasing balls and happy then that night he poops at 2am and vomits. If he does not vomit he will eat grass and induce vomit. Then he will sleep most of the day and not want to eat. Well unless it is slice of meat well sometime but mainly turns his head to food. At 5 or so he eats and is pretty sedentary for the next couple of days and if he doesn't run or go for a long walk he is fine for a few weeks until he hits the top of the cycle and is happy and runs and then the 2am fun begins. We just had an ultrasound done and there is a small mass near his liver. Next step is biopsy! He has now been eating Biome and before that was Farmers Dog. Thought we were over feeding but he lost a lot of weight which isn't bad for a corgi but... Anyone have ideas? THANK YOU! IMG_0192IMG_4911

Hello - it sounds as though your vets are doing investigations, which will give you far better answers than any amount of speculating from me. Liver masses seen on ultrasound are sometimes untrustworthy in that benign remodelling of the liver, liver failure, cancer, parasites and perfecty benign nodules can sometimes be hard to tell apart from one another, so I see why your vets want to biopsy before commiting to a diagnosis.  You havent said what the liver enzymes / any pancreatic markers / glucose levels etc are doing, but these may also provide valuable peices of the jigsaw.   My only other advice is to hang on in there- and follow instructions from your vet re: looking after Max in the meantime.  In general, weight loss can be a good thing when it is accounted for.  For example, if I forwent my cake habit for a over year and lost half a stone, my doctor would generally consider that to be  positive.  However, unexplained weight loss is more worrying - I wonder about pancreatitis, diabetes and cancers for example (your vet might not be worried about those things depending if they've seen / what's on the bloods)  - so it's good that investigations are ongoing.

Thanks for the reply. All blood work came back normal so it may be just a strange cist or tumor blocking him up. Should have a better answer next week when we take him in for the biopsy. At least he's happy in-between episodes!
