Our mouse has seen our vet on 3 occasions due to irritable skin. He has regular precautionary mite treatment (never actually had them) and has been treated with an anti-fungal cream in the hope this would resolve the problem but it seems to be getting worse and the bald area and wound from scratching, larger.  It's heartbreaking to see but without a skin scrape (which would need him sedating which is out of the question) we don't seem to be any closer to resolving the problem.  Has anyone had similar or can offer any advice to help our little man? Screenshot_20240926-225925

Hello - I do wonder about pain or stress, as this can be causes of self-trama.   Your vet should ask about housing, company, spaces to hide away, visiting predators etc. and, because it is incredibly difficult to know when a mouse is in pain, trial pain releif might be a plan.   Another group of differentials could be endocrine, but they are less frequently associated with itching.   Cancer has presented like this, as has dental disease (pain).   Please keep visiting your vet - when a few months go by, the next vet frequently starts again from the beginning with these cases.  Best of luck.

Thank you.  He only seems to squeak in pain if/when he scratches the area. He has no visiting predators , lives solo but has frequent human company, plenty of space in his cage with little guts/tunnels and hammocks for hiding in.  We are going to change the brand of bedding used in the hope that this will help.  All our vet (and another exotic animal specialist vet) has suggested next is for a skin scrape 😭

Hello - perhaps the area is painful.  Examination and in appropriate, skin scrapes to start to rule issues out do sound to be reasonable next steps.
