Hello! There are a few things that this can be, but one of the classics is a cat bite to the leg. These evetually cause systemic infection; they swell, become painful and often the patient becomes extremely lethargic. Some burst and self resolve but sonetimes the patient gets ill, so a vet appointment /assessment as soon as possible would be a good idea. Other possibilities may include cancers, foreign bodies, fractures, arthritis and all of which can be painful so would genuinely benefit from seeing the vet sooner rather than later. It may be worth making some phone calls a) for the seriousness / priority of the case to be assessed and b) to discuss the most cost effective way of being seen. Vets can usually tell you the best local option. I hope that something here is helpful.
