My dog is vibrating his head, what does that mean?

Hello, Two days ago, my dog started vibrating his head (not shaking, only vibrating as if he was shivering). It was a hot day, and he had been outside a lot so I assumed it was due to dehydration and treated him as such. The next day he appeared to be fine, however this morning (two days later), he has started doing this again. We clean his ears with an ear cleaning solution at least once a month. He also has been eating and drinking normally. We have tried putting a blanket on him, assuming he may be cold, but it doesn’t work either. Any ideas what this could be? Thank you! Katelyn

Hello!  It sounds as though your dog is suffering head-tremors.  Overheating may be a possibility;  it could also be of muscular or neurological origin.  It may pay to start writing everything you can down about the times you have observed this, but we would advise seeing your vet who may well examine the neuromuscular system and / or perform blood tests, depending what they find.  Best of luck and please let us know how you get on.

It's worth mentioning that there is such a thing as a 'partial seizure;' if you catch the head-shaking in motion again, it may be helpful to take a video, capturing the eyes.  Another possibility may include a something like low blood glucose.  It is defintiely worth contacting your vet.  They may triage the case over the phone to let you know how quickly your loved one need to be seen.
