Hello! My dog has been having this “pimple” on his scrotum for about 2 weeks now. He is not in pain and probably doesn’t know that its there. I am just a little concern if it’s just like a hair follicle or if it’s something more. It’s not red like with blood it’s just his skin color .Thank you for your help !
Hello - that could, as you say, be an inflamed hair follicle or something more. Sometimes a wee mite called Demodex goes to sit in hair follicles; it's mostly associated with mothy-looking hair loss but can sometimes cause a small local reaction.
Other differentials would be a spot that should burst and clear, a scratch that has become inflamed, or a cyst. But I couldn't completely rule out local infection or scrotal cancer - which is painless - and given that it's been there for a while, I think that a lot of vets might opt for some sort of local treatment and / or aim to biopsy if not responding.
