Our 10 week old Toller puppy was given a L4 Nobivac vaccine at 8 weeks. Our vet said the L4 wasn't necessary unless you travel to Europe and gave her the L2 Canigen at 10 weeks, and said she could go out in 1 week. Reasoning the risk of staying in was greater than the risk covered by the L4 vaccine. He was also very sure the different makes didn't make any difference. When we got home we googled, now we're worried. 1. Is she covered as they are mixed manufacturer and a L4 then L2? 2.We regularly visit family on a farm with large ponds. We think she needs the L4. 3. Can we still have her 2nd L4 booster in 1 week (at 11 weeks) when it was due? 4. I am hoping she is currently covered at L2 level. Any help and clarification is much appreciated.

Hello - the way to know what evidence exists about this for sure would be to ask your vet to check the Canigen data-sheet, which is the small folded leaflet of dense text provided with every vaccination.  This gives the details of the rules under which the vaccination is guarenteed to work.  They can also contact canigen representatives for clarification.  Drugs trials are expensive and I wouldnt expect them to have done the tests to prove that an L2 and L4 will work together, but if not then the reps may have experience in the field.  Alternatively, depending on timings, it may be possible to give a third injection in order to remove doubt / put your minds at rest.  I hope that something there helps.

Ps please note that no vaccine is ABSOLUTELY guarenteed but the data sheet / drugs rep should be able help you to appreciate the improvement in immunity that is offered.
