Hi, I went to view my 5 week old  puppy (golden retriever)  before collecting her i 3 weeks time. i noticed that she permanently has the 3rd eye showing in both eyes. is this normal at 5 weeks? I didn't notice it in the other pups. and she hadn't just awakened when we saw her. Will this correct itself before we collect her? IMG_20210508_190654[1]

Hello!  I wouldn't consider this to be 'normal' five week old puppies; it may be genetic, which leads the breeders to think of it as normal (are the siblings doing the same?) or at the worst end of the spectrum, it may be a sign of an underlying illness.  I would always strongly advise a vet-check at the time of purchase and that a good breeder should have no problem with this.

My apologies;  I have reread your question and see that the tiny one's siblings are not doing the same.  In my opinion, when buying any puppy, it it sensible that the purchase is subject to a vet check.  Reasons for pups to show slightly-closed third eyelids very hugely in severity and can include puppy Horners syndrome, infection etc.

Hi, thanks for your reply. The breeder said all the pups will have a full vet check and first vaccination, worming etc before we collect her so the vet should pick up on it I would thought. We are also going to be sent a weekly picture of her progress so maybe it will show any improvement or worsening in these. I will also ask the breeder to ask the vet to check her eyes thoroughly when she's there.
