My 2 year old male has suddenly come up with a swollen nose and a swollen patch on his right back foot. I don't know why.

Hello!  Me neither, but I wonder about infection, such as ringworm, which can present as thickenings to the skin in those places.  Ringworm can be infectious, especially but not only to those who are immunocompromised, so care will have to be taken before a diagnosis is reached.  Other possibilities can include other bacteria, oedema - eg in connection with allergy - abscesses, insect bites, foreign bodies, demodex, injuries, tumours and so on.   Its sounds to be a good idea to show your rats' skin to your vet.

Your vet should give out advice in case the lesion should turm out to be ringworm, but essentially we would advise that you keep handling to a minimum and wash your hands and clothing well after handling your rat until proven otherwise, just in case.  Please do let us know what the swellings turn out to be.

It's just strange he was fine yesterday. The skin still looks normal and it doesn't feel fluidly or hard. It isn't bothering him and he isn't showing any typical signs of pain or discomfort. Very little porphyrin. Still eating and drinking and acting normal. It is cold at the minute as yesterday our boiler broke. So I don't know if it's something related to that or maybe a respiratory infection is my guess. I haven't changed anything so I don't think it's an allergy. Just never seen anything like it.IMG_20221210_143141

Yes - I agree it looks strange.  I wonder if your vets will test / biopsy it for you.   Please do let us know what it is if they find out!

Hi - yes, definitely worth showing to your vet and worth checking advice on the spread of ringworm in the meantime, just in case.  If the vet isnt sure from looking / basic tests, they may request a biopsy.
