Scab looking bits round outside base of ears

Hi, my 2 year old gordon setter collie cross has scab like bumpy skin round the base of her ears on the outside. She doesnt really itch them much that we see but the other day there was a small part that looked like it was bleeding slightly. Is this just scabs from itching? If so what could the itching be caused by and is there anything we can buy for now to help?
